Stephen Jones was born to a ‘hand’ on a ranch in
He worked for a few years as an EMT after college, trying
to save up money for graduate school, and finally managed to get back into
school, to complete his studies in advanced quantum theory. The inevitable lab
accident that ‘collapsed his subquantum waveform’ led
to a new career, as a crime-fighting superhero (starting with the professor who
had, it turned out, deliberately sabotaged the lab, in an attempt to grant
*himself* superhuman powers, an attempt foiled by his ‘brave’ assistant pushing
him out of the way at the last second!). Stephen crafted a special uniform for
himself from collapsed materials scrounged up at the scene of the accident that
responded and ‘collapsed’ with him when he invoked his Shrinking powers,
forming what he calls his ‘Quantum Armor’ (which is a dark gray skintight
bodysuit, but surprisingly durable, for all it’s lightweight construction).
Like his body, when the suit collapses, it *gains* mass at an incredible rate,
increasing in weight and durability, until it is as hard as stone! His body
increases in durability and strength at an even greater rate, becoming almost
iron-hard when he is at ‘full collapse’ and the size of a child’s plaything.
Ironically, Stephen was always a tall boy, from a tall
family, and often towered over his fellows in the sciences departments at just
over six foot (he was derisively ‘mistaken’ for a basketball player who had
‘gotten lost’ more than once). It wasn’t until he began ‘superheroing’
that he learned to make use of his lean frame, hardened by a youth of hard work
on the farm, and studied martial arts with the same sort of focus and
dedication he’d put into his academic studies. In his year and a half as a
hero, he’s been belittled by the local press, since it seems the local
