Amalgam – Willow Ann Rosenberg (Buffy) with a splash
of the Elemental Fathom
Quiet and mousy throughout her school career, Willow
did her best to avoid notice, and when she was noticed, bribed her way out
of trouble by offering to do peoples homework, which backfired massively,
and led to her having to do *lots* of homework…
So that’s how she ended up in the middle of the hall,
trapped by four members of the football team who were shoving her around because
her paper for the team captain was ‘too good’ and an obvious fake, and he
got a zero on it and his position on the team was now in jeopardy. For some
reason, inexplicable to her as well as to them, two of the ‘mean kids’ in
school chose that moment to intervene, tackling the jocks and going down in
a kicking, screaming, cursing mass of bodies. She was going to run, really
she was, but when she saw one of the jocks wind up for a kick on one of the
boys who had leapt to her defense, she instead delivered her 10 lb. bookbag to the side of his head, while he was only balanced
on one leg… Things got a bit out of control, and probably the only reason
why her so-called-rescuers didn’t get suspended along with the jocks was because
the vice principal rounded the corner in time to see a 210 lb. member of the
football team punch a 90 lb. girl in the face. Some part of her knew she should
be angry at the boys for ‘jumping to her defense’ and getting her punched,
but somehow knowing that she didn’t have to do their homework for a week made
up for it, and she wore the black eye as a badge of pride. That’s how Willow
ended up hooking up with Jesse and Xander, two scrawny
guys whose only claim to fame was that anyone who messed with either of them
was in for a surprise shanking by the other when
they least expected it. For some reason, she had been added to their list,
and she had no complaints, since these two, even if they were the *last* people
she would have chosen to hang out with, were in fact the *only* people who
had ever wanted to…
The rest of the semester, and the years that followed,
were great for
It was in their freshman year of high school (well, the
boys freshman year, Willow had been bumped a grade and was a sophomore), that
they found something that bravado wouldn’t get them through, and Willow Ann
Rosenberg died in the library after their makeshift barricade collapsed, drowning
on her own blood as something not human, something with Jesse’s face, laughed
and laughed.
She woke up to the sound of a waterfall, and finally
recognized it as the blood roaring through her veins so fast that she couldn’t
tell one heartbeat from the next, it was like a piston engine, one continuous
thrumming roar that carried her to her feet like a tidal wave. With a wave
of her hands, she felt the spirit move through her and the wave rushed forward,
not blood, not water, but pure spiritual force. It threw her killer bodily
from the room, and she could still hear the words roaring within her depths,
telling her that she was to be ‘the spirit’ that flows within all of us, as
powerful and treacherous as the storm-tossed sea, as reliable as the tides.
Laughing, she used her grief, her outrage and her newfound joy to brush them
aside with a force stronger than any undertow, and feeling the unnatural taint
within these monstrous creatures, these *vampires,* she attempting to cleanse
them of taint, to wash these mystical energies from them, succeeding in drastically
weakening them and giving her revived friends the advantage they needed to
send them howling back to whatever hell had spawned them. She then passed
out, carried away on the same waves of raw emotion that had carried her through
the fray.
[Yeah, obviously the enjoining spell from Primevil was used here, for those three Buffy fans who have the slightest idea what I'm talking about. The whole
hands, mind, spirit, heart thing works well with the fire, air, water, earth
thing.]
